This month I am happy to feature the “new” wine store
in Belltown, Seattle Cellars. Established in ’96 by Dave Woods,
this store has tried to change and stay the same simultaneously.
The new owner, Scott Haugh, has hired new staff, and of course selected
a different variety of wines to offer. Meanwhile, the store’s
helpful wine stewards and the popular traditional Thursday evening
social hours (er, wine tastings) continue to bring them in.
 After
almost 3 years, Michelle Gottschalk has accepted a position as a
local representative for Young's Columbia distributors. Good luck
Michelle! Scott’s new team includes Janet, Kelly, Mallory
& Carl. They’re friendly, helpful, and don’t care
if you spend a little or lot, they just want you to be happy and
to help!
During a recent visit, the staff indicated there was always a strong
push for enthusiasm and education, and that has continued under
Scott. Kelly has been doing a good job of updating the web site
more regularly, and after a few years of absence, they have revived
the old wine club and are now sending regular emails and updates
to their old and new fans. One of the best changes I have noticed
is a more balanced selection of wines from different price points.
In past years the wines we predominately more expensive, and for
a neighborhood store, they needed more affordable, daily options
for regulars.
Stop
in and say hello to Scott and his team. They’d be happy to
offer you a 10% discount on any wines you buy if

member. And if you’d like to check out their popular Thursday
tastings (5-7 pm), the cost is $10 the first time around, which
includes a nice Riedel glass to taste with, which you keep. Future
tastings, provided you bring that glass, are free!
