WED. MAY 13, 2009 – CHEF IN DA HOUSE - with TOM BLACK!

Learn to cook with Mushhrooms with Chef Tom Black, formerly of Fuller's and barking Frog fame! Chef Black is taking the summer off to travel and teach in South Africa, but we've got him before he leaves to do a cooking class featuring the bounty of mushrooms that the Northwest has to offer this time of year, which will be incorporated into a variety of dishes. This is a hands-on class in the amazing kitchen built by Jeff Bryan Construction in Kirkland. Limited to 12 students. Class is only $35, and one bottle of wine per person to share. (please bring something deep and earthy to go along with the mushrooms, a Southern French or Southern Italian wine would be a good call if you don't know where to start!

If you'd like to become more familiar with the main regions, grapes, and classic styles of the wines of Italy, this class is for you! We'll taste wines from the North – Verona, Emilia Romagna, Venetto, Friuli, Piedmont - and then head south to Tuscany, Umbria, Abruzzi, Puglia, Campagne, and then to the islands of Sardegna & Sicily. Enjoy tasting your way through the Italian countryside....

Are you a food enthusiast who also wants to learn more about wines? Enjoy a fun Friday evening at Cooksworld with local Wine Sommelier David LeClaire as he guides you through a series of wine tastings showcasing an assortment of wines. David will take the class on a “tour” around the world, comparing popular food pairing wines from different regions, including Sauvignon Blanc from France and New Zealand, Pinot Grigio from California and Italy, Pinot Noir from Burgundy and Oregon, Sangiovese from Tuscany and Washington, and Shiraz from Australia and Washington! He will also cover practical topics such as storing wine, buying tips, food pairing basics, and will be on hand to answer all of the questions you have but have been afraid to ask! This will be en educational and entertaining evening!

Cooking enthusiasts learned how to cook a variety of fun Thai dishes with Chef Kathy Entrop in her beautiful home next to Inglewood Country Club in Kenmore. Sommelier David LeClaire brought a fun variety of refreshing wines to sip on that pair well with spicy Thai food. This was a hands-on cooking class. Limit: 12 students, $50.

Discover the beautiful whites and reds from romantic Spain! Sip on Cava, Albarino, Vinho Verde, Garnacha, Monastrel, Alicante Boushcet, Carignena, and of course, Tempranillo! Begin in the north at Riaz Baixas, and travel across the country to Ribera del Duero north of Madrid, to Rioja and Navarra further east, and then on to Penedes, Priorat, and Catalunya by Barcelona, ending with Sherry and dessert wines from Jerez in the south. Now THIS was a house to do Chef in da House cooking class at - the historic 1901 Stimson Green Mansion with Chef David "Dig" Wandrie as he taught food & wine enthusiasts to make a fun variety of Spanish Tapa's!

 

Mondays - June – French 101 for Wine Lovers
Northgate/Maple Leaf area
Seattle, WA

"Nothing pairs with wine quite as well as the French language," according to Francophile and French language expert, Anne Brixner, who will be offering a class "French 101 for Wine Lovers" starting on June 9th from 7-9PM for four Monday sessions. The class will be very casual and in the home of Sommelier David LeClaire, who will open a few bottles of French wine and serve a couple of cheeses as we learn together some very basic French.

The class will focus on learning the fundamentals of conversational French - basic expressions, pronunciation and the foundation of the French language - especially as it relates to the pleasure and enjoyment of wine.

Classes meet for 4 weeks in June, (June 9,16,23,30) and all materials will be provided. No prior French instruction is necessary as a pre-requisite. Limited to 8 participants. Fee is $25 per class. SORRY, THIS CLASS SOLD OUT!

CHEF IN DA HOUSE - Tapas w/ Robin Leventhal

Join us for a fun and interactive cooking class with Chef Robin Leventhal of Crave Restaurant fame! Robin will teach us how to prepare 5 different Spanish style Tapas in this interactive cooking experience, while Sommelier David LeClaire explains the art of food and wine pairing with the dishes you will make together as a group. Chocolate is not just for dessert anymore! Yes, this is your chance to have fun learning a variety of ways to incorporate chocolate into your cooking! We'll do savory as well as sweet dishes! Non-chef Dianne Larsen is a complete foodie who has been having fun in the kitchen for years, and will show you some delicious chocolate-oriented dishes while Sommelier David LeClaire will keep the wine flowing. Our last "Chef in Da House" class sold out in a few hours from the time we sent it out! This hands-on class promises to be popular so sign up below.
